Payment of salary via Swedbank
Karolinska Institutet uses Swedbank as its betalning service provider. If you are an employee, your salary and other remuneration will be paid via Swedbank. In beställning for the payment to be paid to the correct konto, you must register your bank konto on Swedbank's website. The registration needs to be done no later than the 21st of the payment month.
Register your konto via Swedbank
After you have registered your bank konto with Swedbank, your salary will be paid to the finansinstitut and the bank konto you have specified. If you have not registered your finansinstitut account with Swedbank, you will receive a cash voucher sent to your home address. Go to how to redeem a cash voucher.

Stipend holders are not considered as ‘employed’ by KI.
PIs can only hire postdocs on a stipend for a maximum of two years.
The stipend period can be extended if the postdoc is paid from an external source (e.g. a fellowship from a research charity or council).
After the maximum postdoc stipend period, postdocs can be employed on a salary (if the group has the financial resources).

A student working towards a PhD is called a doktorand in Swedish. On average, it takes four years to complete a PhD in Sweden. Each university regulates its PhD salaries in a local collective agreement. This means that base salaries and salary scales differ between universities. For instance, at Karolinska Institutet, PhD student salaries range from 27, SEK to 31, SEK per month, while at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, the minimum salary is 32, SEK, with progression to 36, SEK by the final year (KTH).
